    Features are for you

Welcome to the Feature request forum.

If you have a great idea on a feature that you would like to see in the Online Radio Tuner, please post it here.

I am open to new ideas and suggestions.

    Not a new feature but...
Put Play and Stop on the same button. Saves some space. Any drawbacks?
Edit: Vertical volume slider. Saves some space. Any drawbacks?

Yes, that is an interesting idea, Play and Stop in same button.
    I will consider it.
I can not see any real drawbacks on top of my head right now.

Well, I was planning to have some cool feature in the space on the right above the volume slider.

    Such as?
Perhaps you could make it optionally very small (like Winamp) - just a tiny bar. Space matters.

    Taliesyn:
Also a "Recent Stations" button might be an idea - I would imagine it bringing up, say, the last 5 (set the number as an option please!) stations you listened to, most recent at the top.

Perhaps these two fit together? Your last n stations on hotspot buttons? Or being able to select which of your Favorites appeared on such buttons? Accessing frequently-listened stations would be lightning-fast. Thoughts, everyone?

    Play/Stop/Pause on the same button?

Play, Pause and Stop could all be on the same button if you use single-click to toggle between Stop->Play<->Pause and double-click to Play<->Stop.
Note the "->", not "<->" between Stop and Play - this allows a single-click to start playing, which would be more intuitive for new users. Those more familiar could use double-click routinely and a single click when they wished to pause.

And how would a keyboard user handle that situation?

    By buying a mouse? ;-)

Joking aside, I realise that things which require the mouse aren't all that desirable to laptop users or DOS dinosaurs like myself who still believe that keystrokes, once learned, would significantly outperform mouse usage in many areas. The program could respond to the existing key sequences (Alt-P/Alt-U/Alt-S) or Play/Pause on Alt-P and use Alt-S to Stop.... or Alt-P to Play/Stop and Alt-Shift-P to Pause/unPause. Or even allow the user to choose the keys to use. The use of keystrokes is not normally the domain of novices, and I think that the single-button solution will prove as easy for them to use as the three buttons currently employed.

I work part of my time with disabled kids. That's why I asked. Some of them have great difficulties using the mouse. And some of they can't use the keyboard for that matter. But if you can control just one muscle you can run a computer...

I didn't mean to offend, and hope I haven't. The "accessibility" side of things is something that I am fortunate enough not to have had to consider in the past, and so I have no experience of it.

Of course you haven't offended anyone! That thought never even entered my mind.

Sometimes when I click record nothing happens. Possibly because there was no focus or whatever. Second time often works.
But what would really be frustrating were if your second click actually might stop the recording you just started.

    Hi there.

Yes, I have now noticed this myself.
There seems to be an issue when the program doesn't have focus.

    I will look into this.

    Thanks,
    Magnus

    Re: Features are for you

Hello and thanks for this so convenient little program.

A very small change would have an excellent (imho) impact:

    - Add the possibility to play a selected feed by pressing a key (such as Enter, for instance).

When, in the right part of the preset panel, a feed is selected, one must double-click on it to play it. Everything else can be done by using the keyboard, but not playing a feed once it is selected.

Making this possible would allow the use of a remote control with Online Radio Tuner,  (and a tool such as Girder), something which doesn't seem possible to me in the present state. And that, to me but also to my friends (seeing my media-center remote control was compelling enough for them to get one remote too), would make a world of difference.

Of course, there's also the matter of the 10-feet experience UI, but for now we could do with windows's magnifyier. The only missing piece is a key to play a selected feed...

Thanks in advance for considering this,

    Remi
